Our new project: Outjenaho – strahlende Kinderaugen e. V.
Outjenaho – strahlende Kinderaugen (shining children’s eyes) e. V. is a school partnership between Morukutu Primary School in Namibia and Ottenhofen Primary School near Munich. Together they promote school education and improve the educational conditions in Namibia’s rural areas by helping people to help themselves and working in partnership as equals.
Morukutu Primary School is located in Otjiyarwa in the Epukiro Reserve in the Omaheke region of Namibia, close to the border with Botswana. The Omaheke region lies in the Kalahari Desert. The school now has more than 300 pupils, most of whom stay in the school’s own hostels and only come home during the vacations. Outjenaho helps by providing support with food, clothing, accommodation and infrastructure, among other things.
Moving Child has been supporting Outjenaho since the beginning of 2024. When we heard that the sleeping situation in the school hostels was critical, we donated the funds to purchase 100 new mattresses. Morukutu Primary School has more than 300 students of which more than 200 live in the school during term time: 100 beds for more than 200 students and the condition of the mattresses was catastrophic. The principal wrote: “It’s quite a challenge for us as most learners have no peaceful sleep at night”.
We are happy to be able to improve the situation in the hostels.
